In true 2020 fashion I had spent time writing this blog while Evie was napping and the boys were playing video games, I went to save it and it disappeared. To say I was upset is an understatement. Ugh, 2020, you suck.
Although 2020 did suck, it wasn’t my worst year. That award goes to 2015 and I’m sure always will.
I had written out in this blog all of the things we were able to do this year even with the world shut down. It was actually good for me to see how much we were still able to do and appreciate it all. I encourage anyone who is having a hard time seeing the good in 2020 to do that, it helps.
In January, Erik and I found out we were expecting a baby and that was the best thing by far to come out of 2020. We were still able to spend time with family and friends but not as much as normal. Before the shut down we were able to go to Vegas to celebrate one of my friends weddings and I was able to see her mom who was like a second mom growing up. It was so good seeing her since it had been quite a few years because they live in California. She passed away in March so it was good to have those last moments with her in February. In March Erik was in one of his friends weddings and the shut down happened right after that. Boys left school for Spring Break and never went back.
Over the year we were able to go ice skating, bounce places, swimming, Meramec Caverns, fishing, swim at the beach by our house, the creek, spend a lot of time outdoors and a lot of grilling (all socially distanced). The boys got a trampoline for their combined birthday gift and Erik helped Caleb learn to ride his bike without training wheels. We did our gender reveal with just the four of us and it was honestly better that way, so glad we were able to share with friends and family online. We got maternity and family photos done. The boys were able to go back to school in August and it was so good finally having a normal routine again.
Evelynn arrived in September and it’s been the best blessing ever. The boys are so happy to have a little sister. We were able to go to the pumpkin patch, carve pumpkins and the boys went trick or treating. A lot of people here in town put tubes up on their railing to slide the candy through to make it fun for the kids. We did Thanksgiving with my brother and then had a zoom call with Bob’s family since we couldn’t be together. We were able to see Santa in December and do Christmas with Bob’s family and mine. Things were definitely different this entire year but there was a lot of good that happened too and that’s what I’ve tried to focus on.
I know a lot of people that have had coronavirus and several that have passed from it and I know of several people who have passed this year from other things. Its been a terrible year for a lot of people and I can only hope that those who have lost someone in 2020 can find some peace in 2021. Here’s to a better year for everyone and hopefully a more normal one.
