Some of the police wives of the 3rd precinct decided last month that we should start a tradition of an annual Christmas party and then get together once a month for dinner and try to patronize the restaurants that gave proceeds to Backstoppers. Just a little way for us to give back and have fun at the same time.
A few of us already know each other pretty well so it will be a fun way to get to know the other wives and just give them the support that we’ve given each other. Even though Bob wasn’t an officer for very long I still understand the dangers and stresses that come with that job and the toll it can put on the wives so it’s nice to have our own support system. The police wives (not just the ones in the 3rd) have been there for me since day 1 so this is my chance to be there for anything they may need.
We had our Christmas party this past Friday and it was a blast. With the crazy weather it took me an hour to get to Meghan’s which would normally be maybe 20 minutes. Poor Sheryl and Mike were in traffic for 2 1/2 hours but they made it. Guys originally weren’t going to stay but with the weather it only made sense for them to and we’re all glad they did. We had so much fun and I loved seeing the guys have a good time and not have to think about the dangers they face when they go into work. We had an ornament and wine exchange which was a lot of fun. Keri ended up with my wine and ornament. I chose a Rick Grimes (Walking Dead) ornament as a way for whoever got it to have a little piece of Bob and I in their home. Bob and I used to watch that show together and we spent our “date nights” in the hospital watching it. It worked out well since Keri and Denny watch Walking Dead too.
We played Cards Against Humanity which is a hilarious and inappropriate game. I don’t think I’ve laughed so much and so hard. My abs hurt so much the next day from the amount of laughing we did. We learned so much about each other during that game, lol.
The following Tuesday we all met up at the 3rd Precinct to give Elizabeth the gifts we got her and Malachi. I wanted to gift her the same shoes that two other police wives got me back in October so we decided to do that and get a pair for Malachi too and also a gift card from all of us wives and several of the officers that chipped in. They turned out great and I’m so glad she loved them. It was so nice having all of us at the precinct together eating a meal, giving gifts and just enjoying each others company. I don’t know what I’d do without these guys and girls in my life.
